There were more than 5,000 participants in total at the 5th Phnom Penh International Half Marathon 2015 event, including VisionFund Cambodia. The event seeks to support and help children and the environment in Cambodia. In keeping with VisionFund‘s vision and mission, there were around 20 team members who participated in the marathon to help children in the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, we ran to improve our city and country to be a clean and green place to live.

In Cambodia, wherever events for the greater social good are taking place, VisionFund makes it a point to also be there to support the community.

The 5th Phnom Penh International Half Marathon, organized by Cambodian Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), took place on the 31st of May in Phnom Penh capital city of Cambodia, starting and finishing in front of the Royal Palace beside the Mekong River. The event offered three categories: the 3km Fun Run, the 10km Road Race and the Half Marathon distance of 21km.

The run purposely coincided with and celebrated Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk’s birthday and supported the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital with the aim to encourage a greener city to improve human well-being and facilitate friendship.

As of April 2015, VisionFund Cambodia, a leading Microfinance Institution in Cambodia, reached a loan portfolio of about US$102 million to 233,336 families; while at the same time, about 764,000 children are receiving adequate nutrition and with access to higher education, now that their parents’ businesses have improved significantly. Furthermore, we have also mobilized more than US$17 million of savings and nearly 39,000 savers. Additionally, VisionFund Cambodia has recently launched a new special savings product known as Best Child Account, which offers up to 9.6% interest rate through long term savings until they turn 18 years old.
